NRHEG Elementary celebrates kindness with school-wide campaign
(ABC 6 News) – Kindness goes a long way. Tuesday, fifth graders at NRHEG Elementary School spread it across the whole school in a unique way.
Earlier this school year, fifth graders were split into different groups, each assigned to brainstorm the best way to spread kindness.

The winners’ project would be spread across the whole school.
“The fifth graders, of course, were all really responsive and had some of their great ideas. We all worked together,” said Cassidy Williams, a fifth grade teacher at NRHEG Elementary School.
School staff narrowed it down to not just one, but two winners. One group created a kindness tree, where people could post messages with a special meaning.
The other group was inspired by their teacher’s reading logs and created “Kindness Bingo.” Having students fill bingo cards out as they complete different tasks, like having lunch with someone new.
If students blacked out their bingo card, they got to play floor hockey with the Austin Bruins. An incentive Williams was hoping would get students involved.
“We figured with the kindness bingo challenge, a lot of those things were attainable so kids could probably do them.”
The goal is to make the project bigger and better next year.
When students were asked if playing with the Bruins was all worth it, they all smiled in unison, and said “Yes.”
