(ABC 6 News) – The Byron Softball Association is growing so fast, Sunday coaches held a bowling fundraiser to help raise money for the young players.
Around 12 families gathered at the Wildwood Sports Bar & Grill in Byron for a pizza and bowling party.
After teams visited with dozens of local businesses, the Byron Softball Association raised around $5,000. According to the association’s treasurer, the money is necessary in order to keep up with the amount of girls joining the program.
“The association is growing, we’re at over 100 youth right now,” Treasurer Jason Pfeilsticker explained. “All the money that we’re gonna be taking in is to help grow the facilities, different things we need equipment-wise. Just really making sure that the girls have all the nice stuff that they need for softball for the summer.”
Girls as young as four years old are eligible to play for the association.
Many of these players say that softball is their whole life.
“Softball has been a fun experience and I want to do it for my whole life,” said Greta. “You get to run the bases, and I am really good at running, and you can hit a homerun. I would love to hit a homerun someday.”
While raising thousands of dollars is a good thing, most of the girls were just happy to be with friends and family and eat some pizza.
