(ABC 6 News) – An exciting morning for Stewartville business, GeoTek, as it broke ground for its new expansion.
The GeoTek building is adding on an additional 30,000 sq. ft. The national company opened its Stewartville facility in 2020, and after only two years, outgrew its space and needed to expand.
While it is a big deal for the company, it also has a major impact on the community.
“The city has been a great partner with us. We have strong chambers here and economic development committees, so them working with us and us being able to provide additional jobs, and business to bring to the area is really a great partnership between all of us,” said VP of HR at GeoTek, Mollie Forstener.
As one of southeastern Minnesota’s most rapidly growing cities, the expansion is expected to bring 100 new jobs to the area.
“Stewartville is definitely a great place to be and they are doing good things as a community, as a city,” said Brian Parlin, who has lived in Stewartville for the past 15 years. “I’m happy to hear that GeoTek is expanding and more things to come.”
Partnering with Rochester construction company, AB Systems Inc., the expansion will extend the business and occupy most of the north parking lot.
AB Systems says it is happy to give back to the community.
“We’re excited to be a part of expanding Stewartville, and adding more jobs to the community, and just the greater Olmsted area,” said Dexter Kemmett, the business developer for AB Systems.
The construction company is also looking to expand its workforce to staff the expansion build. AB Systems needs to hire ten field constructors along with office staff.
Construction is expected to be completed in May 2023.
