( ABC 6 News ) – The sun might be shining but that doesn’t mean the frigid weather is gone.
In the northern part of the hawkeye state, Iowa Dot officials say there is still a concern for anyone who needs to travel this weekend—mainly due to high winds and snow drifting on the roads, causing limited visibility.
Around 400 snowplows are working to clear the roads and make them as safe as possible for drivers. But Craig Bargfrede says it will take some time.
“Just be patient with us,” Bargfrede says. “don’t crowd the plow give us lots of room to operate.”
Another concern is two-lane roads in rural areas. Some stretches may appear clear, but you may run into spots where the road is completely covered. That mixed in with whiteout conditions will make it difficult to see.
As conditions continue to change, Iowa dot says the best way to stay updated throughout the next few days is to check 511 regularity or download the app for travel information as you head out.
