(ABC 6 News) – Humorous signs in Iowa are here to stay.
The Iowa Department of Transportation joins Minnesota in rejecting a recommendation from the Federal Highway Administration to avoid messages that feature “popular culture references or that are meant to be humorous.”
The DOT in both states say they have been using these signs for just over a decade and don’t believe these signs pose a threat to traffic safety.
For now, the DOT will keep the messages up, but say they could reconsider once more research is available.
