(ABC 6 News) – Some Hy-Vee employees were upset Sunday, after finding out that starting Monday, Feb. 20, they will lose their 10 percent employee discount.
Hy-Vee’s executive vice president, Georgia Van Gundy, sent a video to employees, saying the company is shutting down the program, due to what she’s calling “fraud and abuse” by Hy-Vee employees.
Gundy noted a few specific examples, including:
One employee’s fuel-saver account was allegedly used in five different states in the span of one hour.
Another employee allegedly used their discount to make large purchases and then resold that merchandise for profit.
According to Gundy, the hope is to have a new employee program available this summer.
However, an employee reached out to ABC 6 News anonymously, and stated that some employees say:
“This feels like penalizing their frontline workers who have continued to work and support Hy-Vee through the COVID-19 pandemic.”
This is a developing story. We will update it as information becomes available.
