(ABC 6 News) – An Iowa Senate bill looks to make illegal immigration in the state a crime.
If SF 2211 is passed, undocumented migrants found in the state of Iowa can be charged with an aggravated misdemeanor, punishable by three to five years in prison.
But if a person has certain marks on their criminal background, that charge could upgrade to harsher punishments.
Undocumented immigration is already a federal crime, punishable by up to 20 years.
