Iowa bill would classify illegal reentry as aggravated misdemeanor

(ABC 6 News) – An Iowa bill would enhance the state’s power to punish people who reenter the state illegally has passed the Senate.
SF 2340 would charge someone entering, attempting to enter or is found in the state if the person has previously been denied entry to the country with an aggravated misdemeanor.

The bill passed the Senate in a 34-16 vote.
With its passage, the bill will now immediately move to the House for consideration.
