Iowa bill would require employers verify new hires eligibility for work

(ABC 6 News) – A new Iowa law looks to make e-verification mandatory for employers.
A federal database would check whether or not potential employees are eligible for work in the United States.
The piece of legislation looks to keep employers from hiring undocumented immigrants seeking work in the United States.
Business leaders say they’re concerned because e-verify occasionally incorrectly marks people, like teenagers, as ineligible.
So far, 25 out of the 34 Republican state senators have signed onto the bill.
The bill will now go before a judiciary committee.
If it passes, then it will go to the floor for a vote.
