Iowa could strip gender identity from state’s Civil Right’s Act

(ABC 6 News) – Right now, the Iowa Civil Right’s Act prohibits discrimination against another person based on their gender-identity, but Iowa House Republicans want to change that.
House-filed bill 2082 would remove gender-identity as a protected class.
If passed, those who identify with a gender other than what’s listed on their birth certificate will be listed as having a disability.
Opponents call the legislation “Cruel and wrong.”
Since the start of the 2024 session, Iowa lawmakers have introduced 23 pieces of legislation regarded as “anti-trans,” as of Jan. 25.
