Lack of snow and warm weather won’t slow down Snowfest in Cresco
(ABC 6 News) – The lack of snow and rising temperatures made the Driftrunners Snowmobile Club in Cresco adjust their plans for this year’s Snowfest.
Snowfest is a four day event where people generally get around all events on their snowmobiles, but these mild temperatures forced them to change their plans this year.
This is the 53rd year of the event, but year with a major change: no snowmobiles.
“Snowfest has been going on for 53 years now and this year it’s kind of a little different because we don’t have snow and the warmer temperatures in January here,” said president of the Driftrunners Snow Mobile Club Chris Shinek.
Instead of snowmobiles, they rode around in side-by-sides.
“It sucks, but you got to adapt, that’s the biggest thing about Driftrunners is: we are a club that adapts,” board member of Driftrunners Darius Jones said.
They stopped by various local businesses and rode around town in their side-by-sides to prep for the fun ahead of time.
The support they receive helps Snowfest run for as long as it has.
“Support the businesses, that’s what we’re out here to do, we support them they support us, snow or no snow,” secretary of the Driftrunners Snow Mobile Club Brandon Plaht said.
