(ABC 6 News) – Thursday morning, approximately 1,200 runners participated in the 6th annual Rochester Turkey Trot.
The event raises money for Red Drop Resources, an organization that supports those battling blood cancers, such as leukemia.
For many families, running a 5K on Thanksgiving is a tradition.
“It’s fun to do it with family, then you can just eat whatever you want the rest of the day once you get the running out of the way,” said participant Jacob Gillespie.
Whether running to set a personal goal or just for fun, participants can agree it’s all about bringing people together.
“Just such a fun community out here,” said participant Dylan Hoiten. “So many people, so many friends to hang out with. It’s a good excuse to eat all the stuffing and mashed potatoes.”
