New Mexican ice cream store brings a new flavor to Rochester

(ABC 6 News) – We are still enjoying those warm summer days and what better way is there to enjoy them than with a cold treat?
La Michoacana Purépecha started a few years ago in the Twin Cities by Rochester owner Maria Lopez’s brother. The store brings authentic Mexican flavor in the form of ice cream, popsicles, and other traditional snacks.
Because of a lot of Rochester customers stopping by the stores in the Twin Cities, Maria and her husband Francisco took the family business, south.
“We are growing together as a family, and growing too,” said Maria Lopez.
“We’ve been surprised,” added her husband and co-owner, Francisco Lopez.
Twin Cities based La Michoacana Purépecha opened its doors in Rochester to bring authentic Mexican flavor to the Med City.
“At first, it was like ok, let’s try it out and see how it goes, you know? The way the community has been supporting us has been amazing. A phenomenon. We love it and we’re here to stay for a long time.”
The Lopez’s hope to open up another location in Rochester, specifically, on the north side.
