(ABC 6 News) – Students in Austin are back in the classroom for the first day of the new school year.
Students began lining up in front of IJ Holton Intermediate school early Monday morning to catch up with friends they may have not seen in a while.
Staff at Austin High school rolled out the red carpet for the students as they welcomed them back to campus.
They also had music and a photo booth. Many hope that this will give students the boost they need to start strong.
“It sets the tone for the entire year and if a person comes in with a good attitude and you know tries to meet friends, to do well in school, things are just going to be easier,” AHS Link Crew Adviser Leslie Leffers said.
Students have been getting ready for this day for weeks.
“It means a lot, it really sets off like a first impression how you enter the room and like the clothes you wear and I don’t know I’m really nervous, but I think the Link crew are going to help me out a lot,” said Austin 9th grader Alexis Dahmen.
Link crew is made up of juniors and seniors trained to be leaders to make sure every student has a successful schoolyear.
