Winnebago County Conservation Board new nature center worth $2.297 million

(ABC 6 News) – The Winnebago County Conservation Board announced plans for a new nature center worth $2.297 million.

According to their website, last year due to COVID cost increases, the bids for the new nature center came in 30% higher than what was anticipated. But, fundraising continued along with a few changes to the building plan. They then reviewed a new set of bids on June 14th.

After review, the WCCB approved Kingland Construction Services’ bid of $2.297 million and, on July 11th, the Board signed a contract to begin construction. Depending upon supply issues, weather, and schedules, construction will begin either this fall or next spring.

The Center is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2023.

So far, they’ve raised about 82% of the $2.297 million. For information on how to contribute to the project which will help to furnish the new center and create exhibits click HERE.
