Mason City’s Layla Phillips wins State title at the IGHSAU Wrestling Tournament

(ABC 6 News) – Mason City High School’s Layla Phillips has been crowned the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union 105-lb wrestling champion. Phillips’ win comes as a redemption achievement after losing her State Championship match a year ago.
Other local athletes also competed to reach the championship matches. Charles City’s Leah Stewart (190-lb) saw her upset run come to an end in the semifinals while Osage’s Gable Hemann (110-lb) lost her championship match for the second year in a row.
