Minnesota law enforcement, families respond to DOJ Uvalde report
(ABC 6 News) – The fallout continues as a scathing Department of Justice report found serious failures in the police response to the 2022 Uvalde school shooting.
The nearly 600 page report found police leadership on scene failed to follow standard law enforcement protocol and swiftly confront the gunman.
The shooting, which killed 21 people, now serves as a stark reminder of everything that can go wrong in a crisis.
Now, Minnesota police highlight the work they do to act fast during situations like this.
“It’s going to be counterintuitive to go into a classroom where there is a person shooting a firearm,” said Brad Hazelett of the St. Paul Police Department. “But what you have to recognize is the children in that room, they don’t have body armor, they don’t have a firearm.”
Back in Uvalde, the victims’ families say they’re also frustrated with the pace of an ongoing criminal investigation into the police response.
Investigations are expected to continue into the year.
