(ABC 6 News) – A new indoor skate park is coming to Rochester and it’s being built inside the former Whiskey Bones building.
That spot has been vacant for years.
“It fits the bill for what we need,” Laura Kramer, co-founder of the Garden Skate Park & Coffee Shop said.
Laura Kramer and her husband Adam closed on the Whiskey Bones lot earlier this month for $850,000.
They’re looking forward to giving kids something to do with the Garden Skate Park & Coffee Shop.
“Skaters want somewhere to hangout and relax and have a good time, that’s what we want to provide,” Kramer said.
Laura’s a mom and has a son named Charlie, and he loves to shred.
She wants to give him and other kids a place to let loose, but they have a lot of work to do in the months ahead to make that happen.
“Every spare minute we have to be here,” Kramer said.
Laura and her family are working overtime to make this business the best it can be.
But as they look toward the future, this lot does have history.
Back in 2013, Police say a 22 year old was stabbed outside Whiskey Bones Roadhouse. Earlier that year there was a fight involving dozens of people, and before that a shooting.
Even with the lots dark past, Laura is reassuring as a mom, kids will be safe here.
“I want kids and parents to know this will be a fun and safe place for kids to hangout,” Kramer said.
And at Silver Lake Skate Park, kids I talked to are excited about this new skate park.
“We’ve had this one for a while now, and it’s nice knowing we have a new one in town,” Aydin Begic said.
Aydin and his friends come here multiple times a week, and they cant wait to see drop in to see the new skate park.
If all goes according to plan, Laura Kramer says they hope to open this Skate Park just in time for the holidays.
