Oronoco Fire Department hosts Ceremonial Truck Push-In
(ABC 6 News) — The Oronoco Fire Department and Oronoco First Responders hosted a Ceremonial Truck Push-In on Tuesday evening.
These ceremonies began in the 1800s after crews returned from calls on horse-drawn equipment. These days, many fire stations now honor those early crews with ceremonies when they receive new pieces of equipment.
While it may sound like a big task, even the kids came out to lend a hand.
“To go in the fire truck and Johann might take me on a ride,” Weston Whiting said.
The 2024 Ford F-250 is a custom build that will help with rescue.
“The first one behind me is Rescue 1 which replaced a 25-year-old ambulance and since we don’t transport, we decided to move to a pickup build,” OFD training officer Johann Sonnenberg said.
The 2024 CanAm Defender Pro will help in instances where there is a brush or vegetation fire and was paid for by a charitable gambling event.
“We upgraded this with radios, portables and mobile radios, and we added more brush or vegetation fire tooling,” Sonnenberg said.
The 2013 KME rescue engine features seating for 4 firefighters and 1000 gallons of water on board. It was an upgrade that was much needed.
“We had a 35-year-old engine that we needed to replace the NFPA states that an apparatus should be 25 years or less to be in service,” Sonnenberg said.
The moment came to push the trucks into the station, and they were no joke.
The Oronoco fire department are hoping these vehicles will serve the community for well over a decade.
