Rent a Halloween costume from a nearby community theatre to save money and reduce waste
(ABC 6 News) — The perfect Halloween costume your child is searching for just might be hiding behind the curtains at a nearby community theatre.
Stebens Children’s Theatre in Mason City, Iowa rents costumes to the public for ranging prices starting at 20 dollars. Visit this link for full guidelines on renting costumes.
Artistic executive director Seth Shaffer said the space has many various characters from previous shows.
“We have to custom make costumes for all of our different shows,” Seth said. “What happens over the years is you start to accumulate all these really cool pieces.”
Education director Elizabeth Shaffer said it’s a sustainable option, too.
“It’s something that can be reused time and time again by other people,” Elizabeth said.
“If you go to Amazon, you buy a costume, the chances are it’s going to be really low quality,” Seth said.
Plus, it keeps money spent on the holiday closer to home.
“It goes back to supporting the youth theatre, which does amazing work for the community,” Elizabeth said.
Since they’re custom made, you’re sure to be a standout in the neighborhood.
“It gives you something special with your costume,” Elizabeth said. “You’re not going to see anything like that worn by anybody else on the street.
