Riding across America for a cure

(ABC 6 News) – One man is biking all the way from Grand Portage, Minnesota to New Orleans while raising money for cancer treatments.
Gary Petersen, of Omaha Nebraska, is now biking across the USA raising money for St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
He and his wife toured St. Jude’s hospital in Memphis four years ago, and they have been in awe of the place ever since. The Petersens, in fact, have been donating ever since.
“We decided to donate every year. This year, I thought well let’s try and multiply our donation by me doing something, making a fundraiser.” Petersen said,
Petersen stopped in Austin Wednesday after a chain on his bike started to click.

He has since had it repaired, and is headed back on his journey. He is currently taking donations.
In fact, Gary and his wife have already hit their goal. “We’re matching the first $10,000 that is donated. We just reached it, but we are still going; so, we want to continue to raise money as well.”
Peterson says he does not get very far every day because he’s more focused on interactions with people. He hopes to reach New Orleans by the middle of October.
