SEIU members at Mayo Methodists to demand higher wages and staff retention
(ABC 6 News) – On Thursday, Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Health Care Minnesota and Iowa Members at Mayo Clinic’s Methodist Campus will push for increased wages in an effort to retain staff and improve worker support in Rochester.
Union and Mayo leaders will bargain for a “wage opener,” for an estimated 600 workers entering the third year of their contract at the campus.
In 2022, Mayo had left the exact wage increase vague for workers entering their third year, according to the union.
The union currently campaigns for a $20 minimum wage for all workers, including proportional raises.
The union’s bargaining unit represents surgical techs, central service techs, sterile processing techs, linen services, environmental services, patient escorts, Patient Care Assistant and facilities management.
SEUI workers will protest on Thursday, Jan. 18, at 1 p.m. outside of the Methodist Hospital.
