Southgate student crowned winner of Hormel MLK essay contest
(ABC 6 News) – Hormel Foods representatives of Black Leaders and Allies Advancing Cultural Knowledge Employees Resource Group visited Southgate Elementary School in Austin to crown the winner of the Martin Luther King Jr. essay contest.
The contest is held at 16 different schools in the U.S., with a winner selected from each school.
The school’s winner then goes onto a second stage of the competition, where three essays are elected as official winners.
Authors of the essays are invited to visit Hormel’s corporate office for a tour and to read their essays to company leadership.
Fourth-grader Yvanna Lopez was selected as Southgate’s winner.
