Structure fire at Mayowood Apartments
(ABC 6 News) – At around 9:10 a.m., Rochester Fire Department responded to reports of a fire at the Mayowood apartment complex.
Upon arrival, RFD found light smoke in the hallway of the second floor.
Fire crews then located a unit with a small fire and quickly extinguished the flames.
According to RFD, crews stayed on scene to guarantee residents evacuated and remained accounted for.
Flames had not spread through the rest of the building, but crews conducted ventilation operations to remove smoke and toxic fumes inside the apartment complex.
Two residents underwent assessment for smoke inhalation.
RFD and Minnesota State Fire Marshal reminds everyone that 30% of structure fires happen in multi-family housing. When renting an apartment check for fire sprinkler systems and identify two ways of escape in the building.
Damage estimates are still being determined.
