2nd day of jury selection in Weiland trial

(ABC 6 News) – The trial for an Albert Lea man facing several charges of attempted murder and assault with a dangerous weapon has started.

Wednesday was the 2nd day of jury selection in the trial of 22-year-old Devin Weiland. His defense attorney said they’re looking for 12 jurors and 3 alternatives to sit in on the case.

Many jurors told the court they were worried about the length the trial could take and the money they would lose by not working during that time.

Weiland’s charges stem from a 2020 standoff where he allegedly barricaded himself in an Albert Lea apartment complex and fired at law enforcement and bystanders from above.

One of the people injured was an Albert Lea police officer.

Some of the potential jurors said they may have a hard time being impartial in the case because of their close relationship with law enforcement and those jurors were dismissed.

Thursday, jury selection will continue in the case, and after that opening statements will be made.
