APS board member recognized for his service
(ABC 6 News) – An Austin Public Schools board member was recognized for his service at a public meeting Monday.
Don Leathers, has been named to the Minnesota School Boards Association (MSBA) 2023 all-state school board. Leathers is a 10-year member of the Austin School Board. The MSBA says being named is its most prestigious award.
Up to seven people are selected each year out of thousands of school board members statewide. Recipients are nominated by superintendents, fellow board members, or the community. Criteria for the award includes MSBA training, strong leadership, and a demonstration of concern for students, staff, and the community.
The program, which began in 1971, is designed to recognize “school board members who are committed to student achievement, determined to build support for their local schools, and unwavering in their pursuit of what’s best for students,” according to MSBA Executive Director Kirk Schneidawind
Leathers will receive his award in January at the MSBA winter conference in Minneapolis.
