(ABC 6 News) – Monday, students at Austin high school took place in a mock election to give students a look at what the process looks like.
Students first had to sign in at a polling place and received a ballot with most of the races Austin voters will see on their ballot on Election day.
“Well, I think for democracy to thrive and be active, being involved in elections is really important for students to understand and so to give them kind of a dry run of what it would be like to vote in our system of Republic is important,” said Social Studies teacher Jeff Anderson.
Overall about 1,200 students from 9th through 12th grade participated in Monday’s event.
Austin Public schools released the results of the mock election on Tuesday morning. They are below.
