Austi-Con Tabletop Gaming Convention returns for 6th year
(ABC 6 News) – The Austi-Con Tabletop Gaming Convention is back for year six.
The three-day event will be October 7-9 at the Austin Holiday Inn and Conference Center, located at 1701 4th St. NW. It will begin at 10:00 a.m. daily.
There will be a variety of scheduled games and open gaming tables throughout the weekend including a chance to win door prizes.
Attendees will receive a swag bag on a first come, first serve basis.
Returning again this year is Family Fun Day Sunday, in which a family of up to four can attend Austi-Con on Sunday ONLY for a reduced fee per family. Also returning is a miniature painting competition.
Many board game companies have provided donations to the event where participants have the opportunity to win a copy of the game they play.
“It is a lot of fun for people from all over to get together and play these games” said Michael Jordal, co-owner of Jordal Ventures, LLC., a SE Minnesota marketing and gaming planning company. “We are so happy to be back at the Holiday Inn and to have the opportunity to run the convention again this year”.
The event also has a charity focus. There will be a silent auction throughout the weekend with proceeds going to Autism Day Camp programs in Austin, which are run through the Hormel Historic Home.
Austi-Con charity events have raised more than $13,000 for the camps over the past five years.
“We’re very fortunate to have these camps in Austin and they are an important cause to my wife. I thought it would be a really nice way to give back to the community,” said Jordal.
Past events have attracted more than 300 attendees primarily from Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin.
