Austin shooting suspect sentenced to 5 years’ probation

(ABC 6 News) – An Austin shooting suspect was sentenced to 5 years’ probation in Mower County Court on Wednesday Sept. 13.

Denroy Ashan Jeffers-Brown, 34, was arrested after a June 3 shooting on 4th Avenue NW, where police found a man with a gunshot wound to his chest following an altercation.

Jeffers-Brown, who has no previous criminal convictions, pleaded guilty to 3rd-degree assault in exchange for a presumptive sentence of a year and a day, 5 years’ probation, and a 10-year Order For Protection on behalf of the victim, according to court documents.

The sentence of a year and a day in prison has been stayed for the duration of Jeffers-Brown’s probation ordered by Judge Kevin Siefkin, according to court records.

If Jeffers-Brown violates the terms of his probation, he could be re-sentenced to the year in custody, according to court records.

(ABC 6 News) – A suspect in an Austin shooting entered a petition to plead guilty to an amended charge of 3rd-degree assault, in exchange for charges of 2nd-degree attempted murder, 1st-degree assault, and 2nd-degree assault with a dangerous weapon causing substantial bodily harm being dropped.

His jury trial was scheduled to begin Monday, Aug. 7, until Jeffers-Brown entered the petition to plead guilty.

According to Minnesota court records, the trial has now been waived.
