(ABC 6 News) – The city of Byron is now a little safer after the city council approved 4 new full-time firefighters.
The move comes after the Byron Fire Department lost several members; Some moving away and others retiring.
The loss is a big hit since the Byron Fire Department is mostly made up of volunteers.
Acting mayor, Matt Brekke, says finding people to work full-time or volunteer isn’t as easy as it use to be.
“Right now, we just need the volunteers to sign up or step up,” Brekke said. “15 years ago, we would have 10- 15 people on a waiting list and now we just don’t have that.
“We just need those people and those numbers for daytime responses and things like that.”
The Byron Fire Department is still looking for volunteers.
