Three weeks after fatal Riceville shooting, community still awaiting answers
(ABC 6 News) – Charges have yet to be filed weeks after 34-year-old Acea Spiegeler was shot and killed in Riceville.
On March 1, Mitchell County Sheriff gave ABC 6 News the following statement:
“The investigation continues into this case. The interviewing of witnesses and the processing of evidence does take time. I will update your news outlet when I am able but I cannot compromise the investigation by releasing information prematurely. Thank you for understanding.”
That statement stands two weeks later, Beaver said.

(ABC 6 News) – A community shaken after gunshots claimed the life of a 34-year-old man.
Days have passed with little information, leaving many on edge as to what happened to Acea Spiegeler.
“A lot of us are just sad, there’s a few of us that’s just angry,” Spiegeler’s cousin Connie Espinoza said.
The deadly scene unfolded at the 500 block of Walnut Street Friday night.
This was where law enforcement found Spiegeler with gunshot wounds, later dying from his injuries.
“I was so excited to see him, I always looked up to him and I just thought he was so cool and he was so caring and he was always there if you needed someone to talk to,” Espinoza said.
Spiegeler’s aunt tells ABC 6 News, “It feels like a bad dream I wish I could wake up from, I know all of us are going to miss him so much.”
Amid the grief, Espinoza is fueling it into her quest for justice and answers.
“We mostly just want the truth, right now we’re all just confused and don’t understand what happened.”
Those questions still remained unanswered from law enforcement.
The Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office saying the parties involved knew each other, but there still remains no insight into what exactly happened.
Until those answers come, all this family can do for now is remember Acea Spiegeler, and hold onto the memories he leaves behind.
