(ABC 6 News) – Parents and students at Dakota Middle School are getting ready to break in their new building.
The middle school held its ‘Meet the Teacher’ event on Tuesday, to help introduce parents and students to navigate through the new building. Students also got to check out their lockers for the school year as they begIn to build their relationships with staff and teachers.
But students aren’t the only ones going through the culture shock of a new school.
8th-grade Algebra teacher, Jessie McMann, transferred to Dakota Middle School from Kellog Middle School. But he won’t be the only member of his family at DMS.
“My daughter will be in 6th grade this year, so that will be a neat experience,” McMann said. “It’s going to be really neat to have a bunch of kids from all over Rochester joining together to create a new experience with a new culture in a new building.”
While the objective of the event is for the teachers to meet their students, it was also an opportunity for the teachers to meet their colleagues.
Something 6th-grade reading and social study teacher, Danielle Koster, was excited about.
“We have an amazing staff,” Koster said. “It’s been great to meet everyone and it’s been so much fun getting everything set up..”
Dakota Middle School will have its first day of school on September 6th.
