(ABC 6 News) – As you drive in downtown Rochester you might have noticed a lot of construction in the past 18 months.
Destination Medical Center along with other partners has been constructing a new addition to downtown – Discovery Square.
Thursday, DMC officials held an event to highlight the progress on the over 50 million-dollar facility.
The building One Discovery Square is now complete and already has tenants in there like Cafe Steam and Mayo Clinic.
The Discovery walk is nearly complete but construction has paused as winter settles in and Two Discovery Square will have interior work continue throughout the winter.
DMC Executive Director Patrick Seeb said that what they are constructing is not just about one building it’s about an ecosystem of buildings and partnerships.
“We are creating a way in which companies interact and intersect with each other. The outdoor space. We have these outdoor patios that are being constructed so that in winter months and in shoulder season people will go outside for a coffee or some lunch and they’ll be sitting next to somebody else who may be working on something else that they didn’t know about, and that will spark a new idea between them, and that’s what’s really most exciting,” Seeb said.
There is no clear set date for the completion of Discovery Square, but construction on Discovery Walk will resume in the spring.
Officials hope to have tenants start moving into Two Discovery Square sometime next year.
