(ABC 6 News) – Emergency crews in Rochester were called to a garage fire late Wednesday evening after Rochester Police said they received multiple calls from neighbors saying there had been some kind of explosion.
The Rochester Fire Department (RFD) said the incident happened just after 10:30 p.m. on the 3900 block of 5th St. NW in the Country Club Manor neighborhood.
When crews arrived on scene, they found a detached single garage fully engulfed in flames.
According to RFD, crews were able to extinguish the fire fairly quickly before it spread to nearby homes. Crews also noticed electrical wires on the ground and a propane tank in the vicinity of the garage. Rochester Public Utilities ensured the power was shut down to the power lines.
Three people and six dogs were inside the home that was affected at the time of the fire. Officials say they all made it out safely and will not be displaced. There were no injuries to citizens or firefighters.
The garage and all contents inside are a total loss, and there was not a vehicle inside the garage. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Minnesota State Fire Marshal.
RFD was assisted at the scene by Mayo Clinic Ambulance, Rochester Police, and Rochester Public Utilities.
