(ABC 6 News) – The Austin Public Library was looking for ways to raise money to expand the library, and three years ago, they decided on flamingos.
The fundraiser continues to grow, and so does the library.
Peggy Keener is a board member of the Friends of the Library, the organization hosting the fundraiser. “It’s for the expansion of the children’s department in the library. We want to expand it out and make it kind of a work/play room there that they can do more than just read books. An activity area.”
People can pay to “flamingo” someone else’s house in Austin with either 12, 24, or 36 flamingos for $ 1 per bird. If you do not want your house to be “flamingo-ed” at all, you can purchase anti-flocking insurance for a premium of $10. The fundraiser continues through to the end of October.
