Floyd County man sentenced to life in prison for kidnapping
(ABC 6 News) – A Floyd County man was sentenced to life in prison for kidnapping.
Rodney Ray McCarty, 62, of Floyd, IA was arrested on July 26, 2022 after breaking into a woman’s home, physically and sexually assaulting her while holding her against her will for approximately 2 hours, according to court documents.
The victim was able to get away when a friend arrived to the home. The two were able to provide a description of McCarty and the license plate of his vehicle.
Court records state that McCarty left his drivers license along with his clothes at the scene of the assault. He was taken into custody after he was found in his vehicle, unconscious behind the wheel and naked, unable to stand or speak clearly due to intoxication. There was also an open container in the passenger seat.
In addition, it was found that McCarty had struck a horse and buggy in the 1400 block of Quail Avenue and fled the scene.
McCarty appeared in Floyd County court on October 28. He entered a guilty plea to 1st-degree kidnapping and was sentenced to life in prison.
Charges of 1st-degree sexual abuse, 1st-degree burglary, and 1st-degree OWI were all dropped due to the plea deal.
