I-35 shutting down from Highway 30 to Highway 18
(ABC 6 News) – The Iowa State Patrol says Interstate 35 will be shut down from Ames, Ia, about 30 miles north of Des Moines, all the way to Clear Lake during Friday’s low visibility.
Public Resource Officer Tom Williams said a 2-car crash on the interstate had turned into a 5-car pileup, igniting new concerns about the ability to travel during the blizzard conditions.
Williams said at about 2:30 p.m. Dec. 23 that the interstate would be shut down “within the hour.”
The Iowa DOT, in cooperation with @iowastatepatrol closed north- and south-bound I-35 from Ames to Clear Lake. Road conditions have become extremely hazardous in northern portions of the state making travel in some areas impossible. https://t.co/p5gY7eDt83 pic.twitter.com/pqrFBb3dcP
