(ABC 6 News) – People by the millions are hitting the road for one last camping trip before kids go back to school.
A recent travel survey by Triple A says that around 53% of Americans plan to travel this Labor Day weekend. Many of them will be going out into the sticks for a camping trip.
The Oxbow Park campgrounds were full of campers looking to escape the craziness of life. Earl Plashcourt, like many, arrived early Friday afternoon to set up for his party.
“Every summer we come out here,” Plashcourt said. “Usually we come earlier, but it sounds like we have some nice weather, so it should be a good time.”
Plashcourt and his family came down from Medford to enjoy their final summer trip.
But even if you don’t plan on setting up shop for the weekend, Oxbow Park has a number of trails hikers can spend the day on.
Matthew Haackey takes his family to the park on a regular basis.
“The kids love being outdoors so this is a great place to come for free and see some cool animals” Haackey said.
Park officials are reminding campers or daytime visitors to take extra care of their food while they’re at the park; To help prevent close encounters with wildlife.
The Zollman Zoo will be open during Labor Day Weekend from 10 am to 4 pm.
