Man arrested after foot pursuit in Mason City Thursday morning
(ABC 6 News) – Mason City Police arrested a man after several foot pursuits on Thursday morning.
According to Mason City Police, at 8:25 a.m., officers were dispatched to the Beje Clark Residential Center, 818 15th St. NW, to transport a resident to jail for various DOC-related violations.
As officers arrived, the involved resident, 35-year-old Justin Stauffer, fled on foot from the building.
Police say they believed Stauffer boarded a Mason City Transit bus which had coincidentally stopped at a designated stop nearby. Officers worked with Transit staff to locate the bus which then was stopped at the main terminal in Central Park with Stauffer believed to be onboard.
MCPD says officers converged on the terminal when Stauffer saw police approaching and fled on foot again resulting in a lengthy pursuit through downtown.
Stauffer was finally arrested in the 100 block of 2nd St. NE.
Stauffer faces charges of escape and interference with official acts.
Mason City Police were assisted by an officer with the Iowa Department of Motor Vehicle Enforcement in the apprehension.
