(ABC 6 News) – The historic Mayowood mansion’s holiday tours begin Saturday in Rochester.
Mayowood mansion is where the original Mayo family lived. This tour features a walk through each of its 14 rooms. During this holiday tour, each room is decorated with a different holiday scene.
Rooms are dressed with scenes from the Christmas Carol, the Nutcracker and even the Grinch. Volunteers in the community spent more than 400 hours getting the house ready this season.
“You get to see Dr. Charlie and his son Dr. Chuck from a personal level over being mayo clinic level,” explained Dan Nowakowski, the Mayowood historical site manager through the Olmsted County History Center. “You get to see how their life was outside the clinic, and one of the big draws to this house is a lot of people say the house feels like someone still lives here.”
Nowakowski says over a thousand people frequent the tour.
The tours are every week, Wed. through Sunday, until Dec. 18.
Nowakowski says walk-ins are welcome but purchasing a ticket ahead of time guarantees your spot on the tour. Tickets are $25.
