(ABC 6 News) – The Albert Lea city council discussed the next steps on filling the open city attorney spot on Monday evening.
The council presented two options to make a direct hire or use a contracted service.
City manager Ian Rigg asked for a decision Monday evening from the council, but the council did not want to vote on this so soon as they want more time to think about the pros and cons of the options.
Right now, the council has a handful of options for both.
“If you are not completely set on which direction you want to go, you got one foot in one and one foot in the other, that it is a lot easier for us to end a contracted service than it is to go through and dismiss an employee, lay them off and then go to a contracted service,” Albert Lea City manager Ian Rigg said.
Mayor Vern Rasmussen Jr. said he thinks the city should use the contracted service.
The council will take this up at its next meeting in December.
