Nurse takes plea deal, sentenced to probation in check forgery case

(ABC 6 News) – UPDATE: A Saint Charles nurse was sentenced to a single year of probation and $400 in restitution, plus $100 in court fees and fines, after taking an Alford plea deal in her check forger/financial exploitation case Tuesday, Feb. 14.

Pamela Poppenhagen, 58, was accused of four counts of check forgery and four counts of financially exploiting a vulnerable adult after allegedly forging checks to herself to pay for “medication” for a man she cared for.

The man told law enforcement he paid for his medications with a credit card on file at his pharmacy.

Poppenhagen pleaded guilty to one count of check forgery Tuesday.

She took an Alford Plea, in which person claims they are innocent of the charges, but acknowledges that the court has sufficient evidence to prove them guilty.

(ABC 6 News) – UPDATE: A Saint Charles nurse accused of financially exploiting a senior will stand trial in February.

Fillmore County Court set aside Feb. 14-17 for Pamela Denise Poppenhagen’s trial, where she faces four counts of check forgery and four counts of financial exploitation of a vulnerable adult.

Poppenhagen has one court date scheduled ahead of the trial — a settlement conference Feb. 6.

(ABC 6 News) – A nurse accused of financially exploiting a senior in her care is scheduled for a pretrial Nov. 28 in Fillmore County Court.

Pamela Denise Poppenhagen of Saint Charles is accused of four counts of check forgery and four charges of financial exploitation of a vulnerable adult.

Poppenhagen is accused of stealing $700 in total from an elderly man, while she cared for him in his home.
