RFD responds to Prairie Farms Dairy ammonia leak

(ABC 6 News) – The Rochester Fire Department responded to a hazardous materials call at Prairie Farms Dairy located on Highway 14 West.

Crews arrived on scene at approximately 7:41 a.m., establishing Incident Command while also contacting dairy representatives. They were able to determine there was an ammonia a leak inside the facility which was confined to the single building. RFD crews in full protective gear were able to isolate the leaking ammonia at about
8:22 a.m.

Additional HazMat crews were able to determine the exterior ammonia levels did not reach
levels that could impact the public. They are continuing to work with representatives from the facility to mitigate the ammonia inside the building.

No one was injured due to the leak.
