Rochester principal to receive award for Outstanding School Leadership
(ABC 6 News) – A principal from Rochester is one of nine principals from around the United States that will be recipients of the 2022 Terrel H. Bell Award for Outstanding School Leadership.
James Sonju, principal of Lincoln K-8 District-Wide School in Rochester will be honored at an awards ceremony in Washington D.C. on November 3.
The U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel A. Cardona announced that all 9 leaders are from the 2022 cohort of National Blue Ribbon Schools.
In September, The United States Department of Education awarded Lincoln K-8 District-Wide School as a National Blue Ribbon School for 2022.

Lincoln K-8 District-Wide School is one of just 297 schools recognized nationwide as being a Blue Ribbon School which is based on a school’s overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups.
The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has bestowed approximately 10,000 awards to more than 9,000 schools.
Named for the second U.S. secretary of education, Terrel H. Bell, the Bell Award honors school leaders who are committed to education as a powerful and liberating force in people’s lives. Principals are nominated by their school communities during the final stages of the National Blue Ribbon Schools application process.
