Rochester residents react to weekend shooting
(ABC 6 News) – Rochester residents are still processing a Saturday shooting that took the life of 24-year-old Osbel Ornelas.
“My kids are here a lot, so it makes me really nervous about where I’m taking my kids,” said Katie Sullivan. She says she’s lived in Rochester her whole life.
“Yeah, I think it’s pretty scary. There’s always been crime and violence in Rochester, but it just feels like it’s happening more and more now and over trivial things,” said Sullivan.
Police say a road rage incident between Ornelas and the two suspects, Jose Gutierrez-Ojeda and Isaac Gutierrez, lead to the shooting.
“My child will be driving in a few years from now and it’s just scary what he’s going to deal with in the world growing up too,” said Sullivan.
According to court documents, Ornelas lived just down the street from Diana Stoen.
“They were such a quiet group of people…The kids were out, and they were to themselves. They seemed very friendly when you walked by,” said Stoen.
Stoen frequents Chick-fil-A and other businesses nearby. She says, these days, you always have to be careful.
“You know it makes you think twice before you go, but you know you can’t quit living either. It happens all over,” Stoen.
Isaac Gutierrez faces a 2nd-degree murder charge, and Jose Gutierrez-Ojeda faces a 2nd-degree assault charge. They’re expected in court tomorrow.
