RPD: ‘Person of interest’ detained after stabbing at The Gates identified
(ABC 6 News) – Rochester police arrested 25-year-old Santos Salgado Vasquez yesterday at The Gates of Rochester in connection with a stabbing, Capt. Casey Moilanen said.
According to Moilanen, at about 2:22 p.m., a group of people drinking in the apartment got into an argument, which allegedly escalated into a physical fight between Vasquez and a 31-year-old man.
According to police, the Vasquez allegedly grabbed a kitchen knife and chased the older man out of the apartment, stabbing him multiple times.
Police alleged that a 42-year-old woman tried to break up the fight, but Vasquez is accused of hitting and kicking her to get her to stop.
Moilanen said the 31-year-old man was taken to St. Marys via Mayo Clinic Ambulance and immediately went into surgery.
There was no update on his injuries, but Moilanen said he was expected to survive.
Vasquez was taken to the Olmsted County ADC, where officers allegedly found 15 grams of methamphetamine on his person.
Moilanen said Vasquez faces recommended charges of 2nd-degree assault with a deadly weapon, domestic assault, and 3rd-degree drug possession.
Jail staff also booked Vasquez in on a charge of 2nd-degree attempted murder, Moilanen said, but it is unclear whether the Olmsted County Attorney’s Office will officially charge Vasquez with the latter.
The Olmsted County Attorney’s Office estimated that Vasquez would be charged and arraigned Friday, Nov. 3.
