RPU to draw down Silver Lake to replace a hydraulic cylinder on dam
(ABC 6 News) – Rochester Public Utilities (RPU) will be drawing down Silver Lake to replace a hydraulic cylinder on the Silver Lake Dam.
The draw down is scheduled to take place on Dec. 9, but is dependent on weather conditions. RPU said the draw down is necessary to replace the cylinder.
RPU’s draw down plan is below (subject to change):
- Friday, Dec. 9: start the drawdown.
- Monday, Dec. 12: lake level will be held at 969.0 MSL (~5.0 feet below normal summer pool) for 5 days.
- Saturday, Dec. 17: start to refill the lake level until it reaches normal elevation of 974.0 MSL.
RPU also cautions the public from walking out into the exposed lake bed or ice as there could be unforeseen dangers associated with the freeze/thaw and possible muddy conditions.
