Severe Weather Awareness Week events in Olmsted County, statewide siren test Thursday
(ABC 6 News) – Monday begins Severe Weather Awareness Week in Minnesota with important topics throughout the week as well as statewide tornado drills on Thursday.

Over the week, Olmsted County, and the City of Rochester, along with their respective public safety agencies, will join others across the state in highlighting a variety of important topics meant to help bring awareness to the potential weather threats that can impact our community.

Severe Weather Awareness Week schedule
- Monday, April 4 – Alerts & warnings
- Tuesday, April 5 – Severe thunderstorms & lighting
- Wednesday, April 6 – Floods
- Thursday, April 7 – Tornados
- Friday, April 8 – Excessive heat

On Thursday, there will be statewide tornado drills at both 1:45 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. Outdoor sirens may be used in some communities for the drills.
Storm Spotter training and more information
A Storm Spotter training session will take place April 13, 2022, at the Empire Event Center located at 1517 16th St SW in Rochester. Information on that session and additional information about Severe Weather Awareness Week can be found on the National Weather Service website.
