(ABC 6 News) – Several middle school students are getting the chance to put their math skills to the test.
In February, MATHCOUNTS is hosting a series of math competitions for middle school students in our area.
Students from Cannon Falls, John Adams, Kellogg, Lincoln, St. Francis, and Stewartville middle schools met at RCTC for their chapters competition.
The competition is designed to increase students’ enthusiasm for solving problems, both in and outside of the classroom.
“MATHCOUNTS is for kids who fear math and love math,” Tessa Pleschourt, SE Minnesota MATHCOUNTS Coordinator, said. “It’s really about getting them exposed to it and all these problems are real-world applied problems.”
At the end of the month, the top 4 students will advance to the state competition in March.
The MATHCOUNTS Foundation has three programs open to all middle school students nationwide.
