The Hormel Institute hosting Mayo mobile mammography unit Wednesday
(ABC 6 News) – October is ‘Breast Cancer Awareness’ month, and the The Hormel Institute is partnering with Mayo Clinic Health System and will be offering mammograms through the Mayo mobile mammography unit.
The Hormel Institute in Austin will host the mobile unit on Wednesday from 9:15 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. at 801 16th Ave. NE. It is by appointment only.
The mobile unit will offer women a quick and convenient way to get this potentially life-saving screening.
It’s estimated that 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime and 1 in 39 women will die from breast cancer. The earlier breast cancer is detected, the easier it is to treat. Mammograms are a screening tool that detect cancer before symptoms start.
The Hormel Institute and Mayo Clinic Health System are offering the screening opportunity on with the help of Mower County Public Health, SMART Transportation, SAGE – Minnesota’s cancer screening program, and the Austin Welcome Center.
